Dr. Howard Lang
D.O.
Born in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Howard Lang grew up on a ranch in southwestern Washington State. He graduated in 1965 from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Following this, he graduated in 1969 from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and he went on to complete a rotating internship in Trenton, Michigan, in 1970. His entry into a private Family Medicine Practice in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was brief. After 2 years of family practice with obstetrics, he was drafted into the military for a 2-year tour of duty at Dyess Air Force Base Hospital as a physician during the Vietnam War.
This led him to Texas, where he has been practicing medicine since 1974. He was board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians in 1981. A deep interest in the root causes of disease beginning about 1975 combined with an interest in the disciplines of Allergy, Immunology, Nutrition, Endocrinology and Environmental Medicine ultimately led to being board certified by the International Board of Environmental Medicine in 1995.
He has been elected to and has served in multiple positions as an officer and director of the Pan American Allergy Society and the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. He is a Past President of the Pan American Allergy Society. He has lectured frequently as a faculty member at physician training courses and seminars given by the Pan American Allergy Society for continuing medical education for physicians and allied health care personnel.
Dr. Howard Lang married his charming wife, Mary, in 1969. They have three cherished children… 2 daughters and a son who is the youngest. Each of their children are married, and each of them have 3 children, 2 boys and 1 girl each, totaling 9 grandchildren. All three of his children graduated from Texas A&M University before doing post-graduate work.
Dr. Derek H. Lang
D.O.
Derek was born in the D/FW area and has lived here for the majority of his life. He had the opportunity to grow up with a dad who was a doctor, but who also loved being a dad. Derek expressed interest in the path of medicine from a very young age, and in those early years his desire to be a doctor grew primarily from a desire to care for his family. While growing up, he was focused on academics, but he also spent a significant amount of time with athletic and church activities. At school, he played football and soccer, and he was a long distance runner on the cross country and track teams. Recreationally, he played soccer and sand volleyball outside of school. At church, he was an active member within the youth ministry and went to multiple summer camps as a youth counselor. He also picked up freestyle dancing during high school. He graduated 11th in his class, with honors, from L.D. Bell High School in 1996.
From there, Derek went to College Station, Texas. Although college coursework was a priority, he also remained active in a local church and intramural sports, including soccer and volleyball. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&M University in 2000 with a B.S. in Biomedical Science, and then it was on to medical school.
In fall of 2000, Derek started medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, which is part of the University of North Texas Health Science Center. He continued playing some soccer, but studies during those years took up a great deal of his available time. He attended a medical mission trip in the summer of 2001, and he remained active at his local church during the entire 4 years. Upon graduating from medical school in the top half of his class, he moved with his wife to the Appalachian Mountains for his internship and residency in Family Medicine through East Tennessee State University.
He worked in the urgent care setting for 10 years before joining Lang Family Medicine full time in 2016. He has served as Vice President, President, and CME Chairman of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, as well as serving on the Board of Directors for 9 years. Derek is happily married since 2003 and has 3 children. He also enjoys teaching at his local church on the subjects of identity and destiny. Although he relishes many other activities, such as hiking to waterfalls in the mountains, watching sunsets, biking, soccer, volleyball and freestyle dancing, his favorite ventures in his adult life are being a husband and father.
